Mosaic got you confused?

Mid-May, 2002: I received an e-mail and had a follow-up phone conversation with

a person who was having a problem while making MyConstantCompanion from the directions

published in the book, "Knitters Stash".

After a bit of chatting it seemed she was having a problem understanding

a part of the pattern that I didn't recall writing and couldn't find in my own copy of the book!

I have a love/hate thing with mysteries... They are great when the mystery is in someone else's pattern but

this one showed up in mine.

Soooo...There is a typo in the second edition of the book. A written explanation has been added to the Mosaic chart diagram that was used on the pocket.

The typo Gremlins got whomever added that part and it is very confusing!

The mosaic instructions tell you to "pull" some stitches when it should have read "purl".

Yes, this is confusing! My congratulations to anyone who followed the directions

and still managed to get that pocket made. To those of you who have a half-made

Mosaic swatch haunting your project bag, this should help put you back on track...

The good part of this story is that you haven't lost all your marbles, yet

That pocket really can't be made if you pull the stitches, no matter what you may have read.

I only have access to the 1st edition so I have not seen this typo myself.

I can only relay what limited information I have about it.

I do not know if it will show up in printings after the second edition.

Thanks for your wonderful response to Knitter's Stash's pattern, the Tea and Toast variation of

MyConstantCompanion. I hope some version of this bag becomes your

ConstantCompanion too.

                                               Regards,

                                                                     from the Oregon Coast,
